Why AROUNDMe
There are three things on the web that we want to address:
I have to register with every interactive web site today. Each one uses a different username and password combination. It's like having to have a separate passport to enter every shop! We give you a tool so that you have a single identity and password - an digital identity.
Your social network is an important tool, but you do not own it on the web today. Try taking your social network from MySpace to Facebook and you'll see what we mean. We want to give you a decentralised social network, a network that you own and that you can take from place to place.
In order to collaborate together on the web today we have to use several disparate tools which often do not work in the way we do, hence we have to change the way we work to fit the tool. We create a highly customisable collaborative space from which you can add social tools to match the way you work.
These three challenges are addressed with AROUNDMe; a free software suite that gives you personal Internet identity, decentralised social networking AND social tools in which to collaborate.
Who uses it
Forge; empowering young people to realise their dreams and improving their local community.
Ungdomstorget; a project to network Swedish youth in youth councils throughout Sweden.
A global social alliance

At the heart of AROUNDMe is a technology called OpenID. OpenID is supported by Google, Microsoft, Mozilla, AOL, Technorati, LiveJournal, Yahoo, and more than 10,000 Web sites support OpenID log-ins, and an estimated 350 million people OpenID based identities exist.

Software for everyone
